The 'Saga' documentary film series by ZimmerFrei and produced by ERT - Emilia Romagna Teatro Fondazione was realised over the past two years and is still being developed in Bologna in parallel to the workshops '1. Memoria Esterna', '2. Atlante' and '3. Storytelling', that the artists conducted with diverse groups of youngsters, walking around the city's neighbourhoods, sounds and memories. The collective presents 'Camminare / Walking' the first episode, which has been premiered on 6th March 2019 as part of Atlas of Transitions Biennial 'HOME' at Cineteca di Bologna in the presence of the director Anna De Manincor, the sound designer Massimo Carozzi, the protagonists and film crew.
Bologna as the birthplace, city of adoption or choice for some of its youngest current inhabitants, who have inherited its past and are writing its future. Bologna is the place they call home.
The first episode is about Yakub, who left Nigeria at the age of 15, catapulted in Libya, and disembarked in Italy at 17 years old. Yakub walks all day. Wherever he is at a precise moment, he always aims for the city center. Sometimes he goes out to go somewhere and then loses track. He turned 18 a few months ago. His status has now changed. It is the beginning of a new saga. In the second episode, Tea, an other central figure, will be linked to the theme of "leaving". She was born in Bologna and will go to Turkey for her last year of high school. Will this adventure influence her? Who will she be when she comes back home?
ZimmerFrei is still working on collecting images for the next episodes - looking for places, stories and people - before going out in 2020, the third and final year of the Atlas of Transitions project.
The two first episodes 'Walking' and 'Waiting' will be screened during the Atlas of Transitions Festival in Warsaw on 5th November 2019 at Powszechny Theatre.
