Le Channel is located in a former slaughterhouse, which in 2007 has been turned into a multidisciplinary cultural hub, located in Calais, northern France. The site hosts multiple theatres, a circus tent, and a large multipurpose hall, as well as a restaurant, a bar, and a bookstore. Le Channel welcomes a multitude of activities, including theater events, contemporary dance, circus shows, street arts, free music, puppetry, contemporary arts, lectures, art exhibitions, and family events.

Every year, it presents the work of hundreds of international, national, regional, and local multi-disciplinary artists, among which there are Johann Le Guillerm, François Delarozière, Pippo Delbono, Les Chiens de Navarre, Laika, Royal de Luxe, Alexandre Gauthier, and Olivier Dubois. Le Channel is a place of contrasts, where intimate atmospheres and everyday life meet together with extraordinary events and memorable gatherings.

Incredible Paths

During the multidisciplinary festival 'A Taste of the Other', Le Channel Scène Nationale de Calais invited people on a journey with an unusual itinerary along which they could meet four people who each have a unique point of view, an experience and a certain knowledge on the much-debated topic of migration. The “incredible paths” was an opportunity to create a space where short testimonials and concise reflections that shed light on questions raised by intercontinental migrations can be shared.

A Taste of the Other

From 24th to 26th May 2019, the event will mobilise the full potential of Le Channel's spaces through the specific activities organized within its framework: meetings, shows, concerts, exhibitions, cooking suggestions and workshops. This year's challenge is to look beyond the borders and European cultures to experience a cosmopolitan reunion, to think freely and understand the phenomena behind migration.

The Great Hands Collection

From April to the end of May 2018, Le Channel Scène Nationale conducted - together with the plastic artist Momette, an academic researcher, a photographer and a scenographer - the first of two experimental creative workshops under the umbrella of the Atlas of Transitions activities.

Z’oiseaux in Calais

'Le Channel' has co-produced a performance dealing with the context of intercontinental migration - to especially speak to children about the matter- together with the Company ‘Les petites boîtes’. The idea of exile has been investigated here with poetic tenderness by taking the perspective of migratory birds.

Our French partner, Le Channel Scène National De Calais, in collaboration with the University of Lille, has tried to answer some of these questions.
